Paul warned the believers about those who caused divisions. He identified their primary motivation as serving their own appetites. They were concerned about themselves rather than the greater good.

Such was Diotrephes who loved to have the preeminence and would not receive correction from God-ordained authority. [3 Jn. 1:9] These are two other earmarks of discord-sowers. They are usually those who have been offended and want to spread their poison and bitterness around liberally.
