I Will Give a Tenth

Once again the Bible reveals the principle of the tithe when Jacob said, “Of all that You give me, I will give a tenth.”

It’s better to have the principle in Your life than to have the money in hand. So many say, “I can’t afford to give the tithe.” They discount God’s ability to bless their finances when they go ahead, obey Him, and give the tithe.

You can’t outgive God.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, of all You have given, grace me to likewise be generous with others. At the least, a tenth of my income is Yours.

Finding a Mate

God’s angel went with Abraham’s servant to help find Isaac a wife. God wants to be involved in this very important process of life.

Parents, pray and believe that God will find the right mate for your children. You will save yourself much grief. God knows EXACTLY what they need.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, in the process of finding Godly mates for our children, give Your full assistance to select the right person.

God Hears the Cry of a Baby

Sarah, Abraham’s wife, asked him to send her maidservant Hagar and her son Ishmael away since there was so much rivalry tension. After her forced departure, she and the child wandered aimlessly in the desert. When their water was gone, the child began crying.

God heard and visited their despondency. He miraculously provided a well, and declared He would make of the child a great nation.

Isaiah identified the Lord’s sensitivity when he stated, “A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.” [Is. 42:3]

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, as You hear the cries of the despondent, use me to be an instrument of Your mercy. Let Your compassion flow through my actions.

The Sin of Sodom

Lot and his family lived in Sodom. The sin of the men of Sodom made such an outcry in Heaven that God sent two angels to destroy the city. God doesn’t wink at sin. It gets dealt with, one way or the other.

Sin can be confessed and forgiven, or it can continue until tragic consequences occur. Likewise, when Lot’s daughters sinfully used their father for reproduction, the children conceived became the Moabites and Ammonites who were a perpetual curse to God’s people.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, deliver us from the detestable sin nature that wants to destroy us. Keep our hearts and minds clean through the blood of Jesus. Help us to hate sin, but love the sinner.

DAILY READING: Gen. 18,19

Be Blameless

God always challenges his people to lives without sin. Yes, Abram enjoyed God’s blessing like no other, but he was given this standard to try to live by.

God still blesses His people, and He still challenges them to live lives that follow His pattern of conduct. Obviously, we fall short.

There was only One Who was blameless, only One Who  demonstrated the perfect pattern of conduct, Christ Jesus. In receiving Him as Lord and Savior, we too can be blameless before the Heavenly Father.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord Jesus, Your blood washes us white as snow. Thank You for the sacrifice You made on the cross to purchase a clear record for us.

DAILY READING: Gen. 15-17

God’s Blessing Upon Abram

Upon reading the account of Abram and his journey, it is clearly seen that God blessed and favored him wherever he want. Multiplication of material possessions, protection from aggressive kings, and divine guidance characterized his Biblical persona.

By the faith Christ dispenses, believers today who also call upon the Lord’s name as Abram did walk in that same blessing. the greatest of which is yet to come.

“… In the coming ages he (will) show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”  [Eph. 2 :7]

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, throughout our day, we will create an altar to You by calling upon Your Holy Name as Abraham did. You are our God.  Knowing You is our greatest blessing.

So That We May Make a Name for Ourselves

This appears to be the motive held by the people who settled on the plain of Shinar. They began constructing a tower to get up in the world. The Godhead sabotaged their plan by confusing their language and dispersing them.

People today still try to get ahead using their own plans to ascend. God still resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

God GAVE Christ a name that is above every other. He didn’t try to make a name for Himself. He emptied Himself and became a servant.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, Jesus, Your example of humility and servitude is ours to follow. This day, we look to serve others rather than ourselves.

DAILY READING: Gen. 9-11

Never Again

When God smelled the pleasing aroma of Noah’s sacrifice, He resolved never again to deal out a similar curse of destruction. He was so happy with the gratitude gesture expressed through the offering.

As Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, so each of us can find His grace through Christ Jesus, His Son. We too can send offerings of praise and thanksgiving up to Him that actually displace the animal sacrifice and please Him more. [Ps.69:31]

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, we offer the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to You. Every day we will be grateful for the eternal, abundant life You offer us through Jesus.

DAILY READING: Gen. 6-8

You Must Rule Over It

These were the words God spoke to Cain to warn him just before he yielded to sin and killed his brother, Abel. God described how sin’s intention was to have and control him, but that he must not yield.

John clarified that the lust (craving) of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life are all trying to control us and bring us down. [1 Jn. 2:16]

Unforgiven sin will always lead to death. Obedience to Christ will always lead to LIFE.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, fill me and lead me by Your Spirit today. Grace me to resist sin and to walk this life with You.

New Beginnings

Please join me every morning in reading God’s Word and applying it to our daily lives. This daily devotional is normally a little over 100 words long, and shares a thought for the day, a prayer, and a daily scripture portion. We cover the entire Bible in one year.

You can read with your own Bible, or merely turn to http://www.biblegateway.com onlne and read or listen to the scriptures. I like the NIV Dramatized version. To find it, simply click on the black bar at top where you see “BIBLE” and select “Audio Bibles.”  With headphones and a laptop, tablet, or smart phone, you can get it done.

Here we go!

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, You have created us to worship, serve, and enjoy You forever. Give us the grace to intentionally put You first every day of our lives. Give us the daily inspiration and direction to live healthy, victorious lives for You. It’s ALWAYS in the name of Jesus we pray.
