One Desire

Aged people have a perspective on life that young don’t have. They have seen it all, and when all falls away, they focus on the truly important issues.

Asaph reduced life’s attractions to one thing … the Lord’s strength and His presence … when he said, “There is none upon earth that I desire beside Thee.”

My mother is 89 and dad is 93. I saw them last weekend, and going on to heaven to see Jesus is at the top of their list. I’m glad they have Him.

Abundance

Life has seasons. Paul identified living with both very little and very much. [Phil. 4:12]

David cited enduring God’s testing and refining process which included suffering and hardship, but ultimately His abundance and reward. [Ps. 66:10-12]

Pastor Moses Vegh used to say, “Don’t throw away your ticket when the train is in the tunnel.” Your future in God will assuredly bring seasons of refreshing and abundance. His love endures forever.

The Vow of Praise

At an early age David discovered the spiritual power of praising the Lord. As he sang and accompanied himself with the harp he would sense the strength of God coming over him so that he could “Break a bow of steel with his arms.” He saw the importance of praise on a daily basis. Hence, he declared that he would find a place for God in his heart through praise every day. [Ps. 134:2-5]

We are wise to practice the continual presence of God through prayer and praise.

“Pray without ceasing.”

Submit Prayer Requests Here

Just under each day’s title, you can personally send me your prayer requests and I will pray for them with no disclosure to anyone else. Just click on “Leave a reply.” I would be honored give you prayer support.

Prayer is becoming a greater part of my life. I remember my 91 year old Grandma Demos telling me, “God is keeping me alive to pray.”

It’s been said, “Prayer is not preparation for the work … Prayer IS the work.”

Prayer

The Psalms are for a Christian on his knees and the Proverbs are for a Christian on his feet.

David’s prayers are a model for us to follow. They can be prayed, and are most effective when prayed out loud. They show the possible relationship between a single person and his God. Through their use, one can cultivate an appropriate prayer vocabulary. God loves to hear His Word come back to Him through our lips.

Zion

The Fortress castle where David lived is known as Zion. We do not have an accurate picture of what it looked like, but we know that to David it meant security, worship, a home, an identity with God’s people.

No Fear

Psalm 46 reassures the believer that God can protect and keep His people. Although I did not see a river in Jerusalem when I was there, the spiritual River of. God flows through the City of God, the Church. This picture of relationship with God is our strength.

God can protect his people from anything. He can even stop a war. So, we don’t trust in horses or chariots but in the name of the Lord our God.

PRAYER: We are grateful for your protection, O Lord. Forgive us for the fears that arise when we fail to trust You.

Thirst

The Psalmist skillfully and poetically takes one of man’s greatest needs, that of water, and uses it to describe his dependence upon God. All that pulls upon us in life is not as necessary as water. We must have it to live.

With so many elements available to us, we are wise to pursue the vitals.

Whenever we drink water we should say “Lord,  I need you more than this water.”

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, give us wisdom to pursue the important thimgs.

Suffering

Suffering is part of life and the authors of the Psalms address the issue to help the Christian. They provide prayers to pray, songs to sing, and a necessary empathy for one who is struggling.

Paul declares that we know the Lord more fully when we understand the fellowship of his sufferings.

David said God sustains us, protects us, and lifts us during our suffering.

We all experience it at one time or another.

PRAYER: Father in heaven, we trust you in the suffering periods of life’s journey. Bring us through to complete victory.

Enemies

David’s perspective on his enemies was achieved through a thorough understanding of God’s laws, His ways, and David’s close relationship with Him. Essentially, David’s enemies became God’s enemies. and their fate was determined largely because they resisted God also.

Jesus said “In the world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

PRAYER: Lord, I pray for my enemies. If they are against you, let them see the error of their ways and come to Salvation.
