Seek Advice

“I do it MYSELF!”

Aren’t these the words many infant children utter when you try to teach or assist them in completing a simple task. You think, “No, you won’t be able to do it yourself.” Or, “Please don’t be so bossy and arrogant … you need help and are too proud to receive it.”

What’s sad is when this tendency appears in adults or leaders who are thinking only of their reputation or political advantage. Guess what? There is a day coming when they simply wont be able to do it themselves. Then, they will have to relent and accept help or advice.

A wise leader seeks counsel and advice from others who may have more experience or expertise on a subject. When they do, everyone wins and the Body of Christ becomes more healthy.

Hold Your Tongue

Many things are better left unsaid.

God hears your heart and your prayers. He is a better communicator than you are. Pour out your complaint to Him and let Him work it out. Also, He is much better at timing than you are.

I used to hear Pastor Moses Vegh quote this saying … “You can talk about me how you please; I will talk about you on my knees.”

Want to see something happen? Build your case with God and let Him work it out. Meanwhile, “Zip it!”

God Watches Everything

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. [Pr. 15:3]

The Psalmist declared, “If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.” [Ps. 130:8]

Jonah thought he was getting away from God’s call on his life by purchasing a ticket on a ship to nowhere, but God followed him with a great fish.

To the believer, it’s comforting to know that God is with you wherever you go. To the sinner, it is motivation to get right with the God who knows and sees his every secret sin.

In fact, God sees everything ALL THE TIME, past and future and present. This gives us insight into the greatness of God. Who is man that Thou art mindful of him?

Promote Peace

Great peace have they that love Thy Law and nothing shall offend them. [Ps. 119:165]

A Christian’s life is more peaceful than a sinner’s life because he is right with God. He operates on a sturdy platform and navigates life more efficiently. Christ sent the Christian out to influence others by the Gospel of Peace. We are “Ministers of reconciliation” endeavoring to bring others into the life of peace in Christ.

The way of a transgressor is hard. [Pr. 13:15] Sinners NEED the peace that Christ can bring. When their lives are in a turmoil, it’s a good time to witness about God’s solution … salvation through the blood of Christ and the peace of mind knowing that you are right with God and will escape eternal destruction.

Get Wisdom

Wisdom is the principle thing, therefore get wisdom, and with all thy getting, get understanding.. Wisdom has been defined as “Insight into the true nature of things.” Understanding is the application of wisdom to life.

Christ Jesus IS God’s Wisdom to us. [1 Cor. 1:24] He was the epitome and expression of God’s Wisdom. Whenever you read wisdom in Proverbs, just insert “Jesus” and it will clarify.

The expression, “What would Jesus do?” is a good one. It can be our prayer to navigate life’s challenges.

Guard Your Heart

Guard your heart, for out of it are the issues of life ie. be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.

Our food affects our health. Our exercise affects our strength. Our time given to God’s Word and prayer affects our spirituality. Our education affects our way of life and income. Our work affects our productivity.

How and what we think determines who we are. Only God and us know what truly goes on in our head. We control the thought-life. It’s critical that it is healthy.

When I read Joyce Meyer’s book, The Battlefield of the Mind, I became painfully aware of how much wrong thinking I was harboring and began identifying it in my thought process and “kicking it our of my mind.”

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;  [2 Cor. 10:4,5

Live Without Fear

If you fear the Lord, you don’t have to fear anything else.

The last verse in Proverbs 1 says, “But whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

It’s an awful thing to live in fear. Fear has torment. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Tim. 1:7

Christians don’t have to fear the future. They can rest in the Lord and be confident that He will give them everything they need to be an overcomer in this life.

Scope of Praise

We have voices to sing, hands to raise, knees to bow on, hearts to respond, and lives to live in praise to God. The latter end of the book of Psalms reminds us how important it is to give God our response of gratitude for Who He is and what He’s done for us.

God wants it and deserves it. In fact, rendering praise to Him is one of the only things we can give to Him. He deserves a praise response to everything He does for us, including the life He has given to us. While we exist with the breath He gives and the heartbeat He sustains, we should be in a constant mode of showing how great He is with our words and actions … all the time and not just on Sundays.

Mob Violence Condemned

A violent mob condemned Jesus. His Heavenly Father ultimately redeemed Him and caused Him to triumph … His soul was not left in hell.

In today’s political scene we see more violence from unruly mobs than we’ve probably seen since the Boston Tea Party. Despite the method, in both cases God had His way in the end.

We endure tribulation in life, but we are encouraged to “Be of good cheer, for (Christ has) overcome the world.”

We trust the Lord.

God’s Omniscience, Omnipresence

The author of Psalm 139 gives scripture’s clearest explanation of our omniscient, omnipresent God. That God is everywhere at the same time and knows every detail about anything or anyone who ever existed is waaaaay beyond our understanding. Again I use the analogy of a book … that God has the ability to see everything before Him as one does in a book … He can turn to any page in time, anywhere, at His discretion. He knows what HAS ALREADY happened and what WILL happen.

“What is man that Thou art mindful of him?”
