Mary’s response to the angel’s visitation is so eloquent it has been called the “Magnificat.” (mahg-nee-fee-caht) Obviously she was inspired by the Holy Spirit and overwhelmed by emotions of gratitude and reverential awe. Nevertheless, she had been given an assignment, a mission greater than that of any other woman in history. We are told she may have been 14 years old. Her knowledge of Israel’s history and God’s character both give witness that she was from a Godly homelife. She also referred to this honor as being the result of her humility and desire.
We are wise to raise children in a similar environment. Christian education, faithful church attendance, and a high-character homelife are valuable components in raising children who are likely candidates for a visitation from God.
