Service

The priests were given specific duties to maintain and move the Tabernacle and its furnishings. Each was assigned a task and role of service. Nobody was idle. All pitched in to move the Tabernacle when the Pillar of Cloud began to move.

Christians are all priests unto God. Service did not stop when the New Testament began. Now, God’s Holy Spirit deals out instruction and direction to each of us on how we can facilitate God’s Kingdom here on earth. We primarily serve people, not buildings.

The Cross

As the Israelites moved through the wilderness, traveling from Egypt to The Promised Land, they were instructed to configure their camping formation in the form of a cross, using the Tabernacle as the center. Interestingly, as God looked down on their formation, He saw a cross.

All along, God was pointing to a Savior Who would take away their sins and be their God.

He’s still doing it today, using life situations to point men to the Cross of Christ. We can commit our lives and works to the Lord and let Him use us to witness of the Cross and the Savior Who died upon it.

For/Against

God clarified that He would be miraculously for His people when they lived in obedience to His ways. Supernatural assistance was theirs by default. Conversely, He actually arrayed Himself against them when they lived in rebellion, resistant to His precepts.

Saul of Tarsus lived a life of resistance to Christ. God called them pricks. When He converted on the Road to Damascus, His destiny changed and miracles started happening.

The way of the righteous is like morning light that gets brighter and brighter till it is full day. [Pr. 4:18]

Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. [Pr. 13:15]

Jubilee

God instituted ownership devices in the law such as Jubilee to provide a way for Hebrews who had indentured themselves because of hard times to be free once again. If they had likewise sold their family’s land to keep alive, it reverted back to their ownership. This happened every fifty years.

Christ means Jubilee to Christians. He frees us from the bondage of sin and restores the abundant life it stole. Everything we will ever need can be found in Jesus. He IS the ANSWER to every life problem.

Daily Spiritual Vigilance

There may be no greater example of the Chritian’s daily spiritual vigilance needed than the lamps in the Tabernacle which were to be continually burning. The priests were to maintain the oil and the flame to provide light for the inner chambers.

God’s Word speaks to us of the light and the Holy Spirit speaks of the oil.

The parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25 highlights the need to be vigilant to keep your lamp full of oil and ready to be used.

Priesthood Standards

The conduct, appearance, and overall demeanor of the priesthood was held to a very high standard by the law God gave Moses. They were to be exemplary in all facets of life. They maintained a habit of holy living, giving constant attention to keeping themselves ceremonially clean.

Contemporary Christians are also encouraged to maintain a high standard of personal uprightness. The big difference is … we have the grace of God and His Holy Spirit to guide us and supply the inner strength to fulfill God’s standard.

That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. [Eph. 5:27]

Judge Fairly

God clarified in the law that His people were not to judge each other with respect to wealth, position, or power. He was after righteous conduct between people based upon a fair evaluation of the facts. In light of the recent news of celebrity privilege trumping fair college admissions, we see the importance of fair and accurate dealings.

It takes years to develop a good reputation. It takes mere moments to destroy one.

It’s wise to remember that we will be judged when we harshly judge others.

My fellow believers, do not practice your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of partiality [toward people—show no favoritism, no prejudice, no snobbery].  James 2:1

Keeping Pure

The law identified precepts of moral purity. Failure to follow God’s commands led to uncleanness and reproach. We know what sin is because of the law.

Jesus takes it even further. He requires a thought life of moral purity. He condemned adultery of the heart.

Whereas moral impurity brings reproach, moral purity brings honor. A morally pure mind is a strong mind that is clearer in its thinking and has a closer relationship with God.

Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart (thinking) for they shall see God.” [Matt. 5:8]

Atonement

God clarified an exhaustive and detailed process the priests must perform to get rid of sin. Te goal … atonement … whereby the repair of the separation from God because of sin is performed.

Gratefully, Christ Jesus once and for all made atonement for our sin by dying on the cross for us.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows … and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. [Is. 53:4, 6b]

Defiling Molds

The law clarified how to remove mold from rooms. Mold continues to be a health issue for many. In general, it’s bad. Thankfully, it can be removed, cleansed, and covered up using chemicals and paint, similarly to the process used by the priests in the Old Testament.

You can pick up a mold kit at the hardware to determine what molds are present when suspected. You send it off after exposing it to room air for a specified period of time. A lab sends you results from which you can determine your course of action.

Interestingly, the law addressed many health issues because GOD WANTED HIS PEOPLE TO BE HEALTHY.

Achieving good health is worth the effort.

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thess. 5:23
