How gratifying, yet disappointing it must have been for Moses to climb to the top of Mt. Nebo and gaze upon The Promised Land that God provided for Israel. Kept out by his disobedience, Moses was given the privilege of seeing the goal he had herded Israel toward for 40 years. His consolation was in knowing that the Children of Israel had a home and a future with opportunities laid before them. God had given to him special instructions and specific identities that would characterize each tribe. He was an earthly father to them.
God gives to fathers an insightful glimpse into the futures of their children. They can trust that the Lord has a future and hope for each of them.

Wow. This is always hard for me to think about! How quickly the promise-land was taken from him! Reminds us that immediate obedience is so important!

Yes, instant obedience is important. However, Christ imputed to us His Righteousness when He took our place as a sin sacrifice. Our enemy would love to beat us to death when we disobey to keep us from walking in the Righteousness of Christ. We obey because the Spirit of Christ is in us. Grace works in us both to will and do God’s good pleasure.
