Psalms 137-141

We get a look at God’s mental capabilities when we consider Psalm 139.

You KNOW me. (You view my entire history when You see me)

You know when I sit down and when I get up. (You keep tabs on My daily schedule)

You know what I am thinking and You understand me. (My thought-life is NOT HIDDEN from You)

You discern my going out and my lying down. (You scrutinize my activities and know my habits)

Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. (You already know what I am about to say before I say it)

Psalms 135,136

When Moses and the Israelites prepared to enter Canaan, they were met with resistance from Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan. Both were superhuman men who struck fear in the heart of all opposition. The Amorites were probably descendants of the Nephilim, giants produced when angels reproduced with humans. Og’s bed was 14 ft. long. That’s nearly as long as a free throw in basketball. Think of when he stood up.

Like David, we too can be giant slayers. When you are going where God wants you to go, to do what God wants you to do, you can depend upon His power to protect you and deal with all opposition.

Psalms 126-134

Could Psalm 134 have been written by a Levite who served on the night shift in God’s house? Quite possibly.

For nearly 20 years now, I have found myself awaking in the middle of the night to do my devotions. Actually, it is the “womb of the morning.” [Ps. 110:3] It is less a matter of my discipline and more a matter that …. I JUST WAKE UP!

For one thing, the duties of the daytime are not pulling on you. There’s literally not much else to do at that hour. TV is worthless. Raiding the fridge gets you in big (pun intended) trouble. There’s no one to talk to but the Lord. It’s a good time to listen to Him. The reception is more clear. Get the picture?

Because I’m retired I can take a nap in the daytime when I need it. Meanwhile, I will probably continue this schedule until I graduate.

Psalms 120-125

In God’s care is the safest place in the universe. The believer can live confidently with NO FEAR!

God doesn’t send you an email or text message … He sent His Son, Christ Jesus, with a message and way of living. Christ is with us every moment. His angels are guarding. What’s more, He’s watching over the ones you love.

God’s guard is around you. Job had a hedge of protection around him. As the mountains are around Jerusalem, so the Lord is circled around His people.

God believes in the wall.

Psalm 119

James said we are drawn away from God by our carnal lusts and appetites. Through experience, we sadly find that when we get what we want (and too much of it) we find ourselves in trouble.

God gives us the best way if we will only find it … through His Word … and then live according to His ways.

A child is spared the heartache and grief that sin brings when they are raised in a home where God’s Word is in the driver’s seat. They might depart long enough to realize that only pain awaits at the end of that road.

Psalms 117,118

How often our mind goes to human solutions rather than God’s supernatural power. When we are ill, our first thought is frequently, “I need to make a doctor’s appointment.” Or, we think, “What pill can I take that will remedy this?”

The Psalmist said, “When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; He brought me into a spacious place.  The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. The Lord is with me; he is my helper.” [Ps. 118:5-7]

When we have a problem, prayer should be our first course of action. Simply ask in the name of Jesus and state your need and meditate on God’s promises for a moment. Faith will come, and grace will begin working.

Give God a chance.

Psalms 111-116

God’s perfect love casts out our fears. When we fear the Lord, we have nothing else to fear.

Reverential awe of God IS the fear of the Lord.

Fear has torment, but God’s love delivers the believer from EVERY FEAR. Life is not meant to exist in fear, but in trust. A life with fear is not a life. When we fear the Lord, we find ourselves in a placement in God’s hierarchy where we are secure from all danger and harm.

Psalms 106-110

The Psalms are found in the center of the Bible. Their proximity is strategic … they are foundational to all else in God’s Word.

They are to be read and used often. Jesus quoted frequently from them.

Psalms 103-105

It’s possibly the greatest success story in the Bible. Joseph went from being a prisoner to the second highest in the land. Pastor Moses Vegh used to say, “Joseph was a shave and a haircut away from the prime minister’s seat.”

Nobody but God can orchestrate such a leap in life. It was Joseph’s dreams that got him into trouble, but it was his ability to interpret dreams that redeemed him and elevated his reputation.

We are wise to identify God’s gift in our life and ride the journey it provides.

Psalms 97-102

Old age begins to get your attention in your 60s. In your 70s, you realize that things are much different in your body and attitude for life. Your values change somewhat. Some things grow in importance and others diminish. It is not now like it was years ago. Changes happen.

God doesn’t change. He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. The truths He teaches us will remain constant throughout our life. Studying His Word is ALWAYS profitable because He progressively reveals Himself to us through it.

The very best changes we can make are in becoming more like the Lord. “Old things are passed away, behold all things are become new” when we come to Christ. [2 Cor. 5:17] God’s work IN US is an eternal thing.
