Sheer illusion

Jer. 13, 14 [The Message]

The prophet scolded preachers who aren’t really called and who preach a message that he called “sheer illusion.” How sad. It’s true today. There are no doubt many pulpits that are filled with men (and women) who are not called of God. They speak lies and false visions, worthless magic, and their own wishful thinking. [v.14 ERV]

It’s been so long since I’ve heard such a message. How futile would it be to try to proclaim from God’s platform a message that cuts against His Word.

The process of a man of God seeking the Lord and sharing God’s heart on a Sunday is a precious process, and those who earnestly apply themselves to preaching His message deserve a big THANK YOU.

I so appreciate my son-on-law, Dr. Mark Anthony, because he always brings a challenging, scriptural message from God’s heart to His people.

God won’t let you …

Jer. 11, 12 [The Message]

God won’t let you get away with it. So was Jeremiah’s slogan. Others could indulge in whatever they wanted, but God had a much higher standard for Jeremiah … and you and me. We can’t allow ourselves to measure our life’s success or fulfillment by what we see others do.

One of the Psalmists, possibly Asaph, composed Psalm 73 about his observations of the heathen. They were prospering but he wasn’t. God showed him that they had a different “end” than he did.

We don’t live for the moment. We live for the “ending.”

Wise leaders

Jer. 8-10 [The Message]

Jeremiah lauds leaders who consult God, but calls those who don’t stupid.

I saw a news photo of the new Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, and other congressmen kneeling on the House floor to pray. This is so refreshing to see. We actually have a powerful leader who is asking God for wisdom to rule. Hallelujah!

We need to pray for him and others who have the courage and wisdom to seek God for our nation.

What’s the difference?

Jer. 7 [The Message]

Reprobate Jews would sacrifice their children to the false god Molech in the valley of Hinnom just outside the southern gates of Jerusalem. They would beat drums to drown out the sound of their child sacrifices screaming as they burned them alive. Brutal and savage behavior.

Nowadays, innocent babies are slaughtered in the womb in the abortion process. The abortion platform is winning elections for a current political party. Try to tell me we are a civilized people.

Father in Heaven, hear our cries for justice for the innocent babies being sacrificed in their mother’s womb before they have the chance to see day. Turn the tables on political candidates who adopt this heathen practice to win voter approval. In the name of Christ Jesus we pray.

Obedience – the only permanent solution

Jer. 6, 7 [The Message]

Jeremiah pointed out Israel and Judah’s sin and reluctance to come back to God. He was looking for their obedience instead of token worship and false compliance with His Laws. They were good at putting on an act to fake lives of obedience.

King Saul raised up a quick sacrifice to appease the Lord after he had directly disobeyed God by sparing the lives of sheep and cattle which were to have been eliminated. [1 Sam. 15:22] God had Samuel indict him with these words … “to obey is better than sacrifice.”

I’m sure you will find contemporary Jews in Israel right now busy performing their religious ceremonies which are lifeless and deny the Lordship of Christ Jesus. Their disobedience has opened them up to tragedies such as the Oct. 7th slaughter.

“I am Jesus Whom you persecute.” [Acts 9:5]

Streets aren’t safe anymore

Jer. 4, 5 [The Message]

This could be a snippet from our contemporary evening news … er, from a conservative outlet. You and I haven’t seen this level of unrest in our streets since 1968 when there was so much discontent with the Vietnam war.

Jeremiah declared the problem was because the sins of the people were piled high. Sin creates unrest. No one is at peace with themselves or anyone else. There is a subtle unrest in our society. We are at each other’s throats. Marriages are strained. Educational institutions have lost their way. Popular movies are all about darkness and vampires. Our elected officials are taking bribes or on trial for fraud. Where will it end?

Our sins are piled high. God sees them, but obviously we don’t.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. [2 Chron. 7:14]

Admit your guilt

Jer. 3 [The Message]

Rarely does a TV attorney advise his client to admit guilt. They always have an “ask” for a deal in return if they do.

Jeremiah made it clear, Israel had no chance of getting right with God UNLESS they admitted their wrong-doings. It’s no different today.

It’s been said, “Sin can only come out of the mouth.”

Israel – come back to God

Jeremiah 1, 2 [The Message]

Jeremiah’s message to Israel challenged her to come back to God and stop playing to idols and lustful desires. This needs to be our prayer NOW. Israel has been awakened by the Hamas bloodshed. She needs to cry out to God for His divine assistance. As we pray, let’s plead for God to draw her back so His plan can unfold for her.

Vain worship

Is 66 [The Message

Young people who lead worship can easily slip into a self-serving mode that needs the Lord’s loving Judgement. It’s been my experience that if they have a true desire t magnify the Lord, He will teach them how to offer “An offering of righteousness.” But, as Malachi states, they must submit to the refiner’s fire. {Mal. 3]

It never helps to criticize them. Prayer and nurturing are more healthy for their spiritual lives.

In the Last Days …

Is. 5:20 [The Message]

“In the Last Days GOOD will be called evil and EVIL will be called good.”

Well now, isn’t THAT the truth. Politicians and new anchors are probably the guiltiest of this travesty. In fact, in many cases the opposite of what they say is the truth. What has become of our culture and civilization?

Truth can be found in reading God’s Word every day and … hopefully … preached from the pulpits of evangelical churches. God help us when our pulpits become vehicles for the enemy’s propaganda.

I picked this up from my high school buddy’s Facebook post. John Riggs is a Facebook Warrior for the Kingdom of God.
