Although he had obtained revenge for the rape of his sister, Absalom was estranged from his father, David, for murdering Amnon. It was a royal mess.

Joab sought to see Absalom restored to hus father. He devised a plot to achieve restoration.

It puts a strain on everyone when family problems remain unsolved.

Pray for restoration.

2 Sam 12

Essentially, David’s downfall was a result of wanting what was off-limits to him … Bathsheba. He SAW her, wanted her, and TOOK her. Regardless of how he may have tried to justify his actions, it was SIN.

Especially for men, the eye-gate needs rigorous discipline. Job said, “I have made a Covenant with my eyes. Why then should I think (immorally) about a maid.” [Job 31:1]

2 Sam 11

David SHOULD have been with his army, but he viewed a beautiful woman in a vulnerable situation and had a severe moral lapse. He committed adultery with another man’s wife.

David and the nation he led PAID DEARLY for the sin he committed. His “secret” sin was met with open and costly rebuke.

2 Sam 10

David sent a peaceful envoy to Hanun, the newly crowned king of Ammon. His cabinet misread David’s gesture and sent the envoy home humiliated. David took great offense and soundly defeated Hanun’s army. It had been a costly error on Hanun’s part.

A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: [Pr. 18:19]

2 Sam 7

This passage includes a beautiful prophecy of Christ … that He would live in temples not made with human hands. ” We have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency might be His and not ours.”

This is a noble reason why we should take better care of our bodies (I’m preaching to myself here).

2 Sam 5

There was so much blood shed in the Old Testament. I can see how liberal thinkers can deny faith and blame God.

Praise the Lord that Christ came to bring a different message … for the time being. Although He’s not willing, many will perish after the Judgement. We have time and space to do something about it – EVANGELIZE!

2 Sam 3

Abner, Saul’s war leader, made a deal with David to unite all Jews under his kingship.

If a deal can spare the lives of so many, so be it.

For instance, the shedding of so much blood in the Ukraine war is a tragedy. So many mothers have lost their sons, and wives have lost their husbands.

I hate war.

2 Sam. 1,2

David and his men greatly mourned the death of Saul and Jonathan. They protected Sauls’ honor and reputation, because he had been the Lord’s anointed king.

We can sow good seed by likewise honoring those whom Gid has used.

“Speak evil of NO MAN.” [TITUS 3:2]

1 Sam. 25

Upon learning that David had spared his life, Saul acknowledged that David would become king and was more honorable than he. David could have ended Saul’s life in the cave where both were spending the night. David’s conscience would simply NOT ALLOW him to execute whom God had anointed king.

“Lord, give us a pure heart that gives the proper respect to whomever you have given governmental authority to, even if their life is far from exemplary.”

1 Sam. 22

Backslidden King Saul had Doeg, the Edomite, slaughter the priest Ahimelech and his entire family and the inhabitants of his village for giving David some bread to eat and Goliath’s sword.

Politics can become VERY UGLY.
