Ps. 91

The Vietnam War was raging, and I was a new Army draftee heading off to train for war. Patty was my girlfriend at the time. We both committed to memorize Psalm 91 together to be reminded of God’s ability to protect me from harm.

We did … and HE DID protect me. Instead of Vietnam, I received orders for the Panama Canal Zone. I immediately married her and took her to Panama with me. Julie was born there. I was discharged without a scratch.

Everyone should memorize Ps. 91.

Ps. 92

“It’s is a GOOD THING to give thanks unto the Lord” … AND to others.

Nobody likes an ungrateful person. They think everything is owed to them. Not true! What they have was paid for by someone else.

We take for granted the amazing fresh air we breathe. I’m in northern Minnesota right now, and Canada has sent some smoky air from forest fires our way. Lord, we can’t wait for the clean, refreshing woodland air we’ve had all week.

Thank you, Jesus!

Ps. 90

Moses declared that God was the habitation of His people.

What does it mean to be “in God, in Christ?” It’s living in His Word everyday, it’s being constantly protected by His angels, it’s having the benefit of His Holy Spirit guiding our steps or recovering us when we go astray, it’s enjoying divine health, it’s having Him provide for our needs, or breaking sin’s hold on us. The benefits are limitless.

Who wouldn’t want all that?

Ps. 88

Our experience with God is an around-the-clock thing.

The constant awareness of His presence is a privilege He grants to us for protection, comfort, blessing, guidance … on and on. Our prayer life should be commensurate.

“And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him?” [Luke:18:7]

Ps. 82

There are many conditional blessings in the Christian faith. It’s the carrot God dangles in front of us to stimulate spiritual growth and it’s accompanying benefits.

Nevertheless, God is a good and loving Father and is by nature a VERY generous benefactor.

“It’s the Father’s good pleasure to give us the Kingdom.” [Luke 12:32]

Ps. 81

As the Children of Israel left Egypt, they must have wondered how they would survive. God promised to fill their hungry, open mouths with food.

This past 4th of July, how well did you eat? God is STILL filling our mouths with good food.

Ps. 79

This Psalmist’s prayer was for restoration and revival. He knew what Israel had been in better days.

Life can rob us of our spiritual health if we let it. Unkept, our devotional habit can dry up and soon, we find ourself suffering spiritual depletion.

Nothing can help us like a bath in God’s Word. Put all else on pause and begin reading the Psalms and very quickly you’ll gain your spiritual pulse once again.

Ps. 78

God had performed great miracles for Israel in their escape from the bondage of Egypt, yet they still were captives of unbelief. This greatly frustrated God and exempted His people from living in the fullness of the blessings He intended.

And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. [Matt. 13:58]

Ps. 77

God’s plan is for parents to train their children in Godliness and a healthy work ethic. They are not slaves … but it’s good for them to “Bear the yoke” in their youth. Show me a criminal, and I will point to an upbringing devoid of Biblical teaching.

They will in turn teach their children in like manner.

Ps. 77

God performs miracles for those He loves. It’s not wrong to seek them. We have power in the name of Jesus.

He turned the water into wine because He loved those at a wedding and wanted to be a blessing to them. He loves YOU and wants to do something special for you.

“Hitherto have you asked nothing in [His] name. Ask, and you shall receive that your joy may be full.” Jn.16:24
