About dpdemos

I am a 75 year old Christian who takes the daily devotional life seriously. I am told that my Greek grandfather was a devout man. My father was a devout man. May it be said of me.

“Bring me a harpist”

2 Kings 3

The prophet Elisha requested some harp music to stimulate his supernatural insights. God’s Spirit in the music can open men to hear the Spirit’s voice.

David’s anointed harp music could chase away Saul’s demons. Christ’s Disciples sang a hymn just before He went to the Mount of Olives to await His betrayal by Judas.

Seek Godly music.

Pick up the mantle

2 Kings 2

Elisha had just witnessed Elijah being carried to Heaven in a fiery chariot. He had asked for miracle power twice as much as his mentor. He received it … picked up the old prophet’s cloak and promptly used it to divide the waters of the Jordan river.

Miracles are available to you too. Have faith for ANY difficulty. Call on the name of Jesus!

Elijah, the Tishbite!

2 Kings 1

While in music school, I composed music to this passage. I was so taken by the drama which unfolded … Elijah’s trademark, fire from heaven.

He was not a prophet to be taken lightly. Ahaziah wondered if he would live following an accident. Elijah said,”No.”

It happened as Elijah predicted. TODAY, we have God’s Word to answer our important questions. God is STILL SPEAKING.

A wicked woman

1 Kings 21

Jezebel was EVIL. She had Naboth murdered so Ahab could confiscate his family’s vineyard. She had no regard for others … only for what advantaged her.

People use subtle devices to gain advantage. God sees them and puts them on a course of destruction … unless they repent as Ahab did.

Don’t let your children succeed at manipulative tricks that give them unearned advantage.

Talkin’ smack

1 Kings 20

King Ahab and Benhadad, king of Syria, had some serious smack talkin’ goin’ on. Ended up, God gave Ahab a great victory, in the face of all the “jawin'” Benhadad did.

I wonder how much smack talk is goin’ on between Trump and Putin tight now.

We need to pray.

Afraid of a woman

1 Kings 19

The great prophet Elijah had just called fire down from heaven, had 450 prophets of Baal executed, and ran from Carmel to Jezreel … but he was terrified of evil Queen Jezebel.

She must have been SOMETHING.

If we fear God, we don’t have to fear man … or woman.

Baal might be sleeping …

1 Kings 18

Elijah challenged the 450 prophets of Baal to a power demonstration.  Could he consume an offering doused with water by fire? Elijah began taunting them when after hours of fruitless invoking, nothing was happening. He sarcastically said, ” Maybe Baal is sleeping.  Cry out louder.”

It was no use. Baal was a powerless idol.

When Elijah called upon GOD, fire came down from heaven in a dramatic display of power and licked up the offering and all the water which had soaked it “real good.”

Asa’s bad feet

1 Kings 15

You may think it’s all wonderful to be a king. Not so. King Asa had bad feet. Scripture says they were diseased. It also relates that he sought physicians and not the Lord. Mistake.

I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet from a medication I took early in my cancer treatment called Velcade. I hereby commence to seek the Lord’s healing for them.

Seek YOUR healing from the Lord.

Cracks in leadership

1 Kings 14

Both Rehoboam and Jeroboam were highly flawed kings. Their heretical behavior brought devastation upon God’s people, being given to idolatry and carnality.

Jeroboam’s son was sick. He sent his wife incognito to the prophet to inquire if he’d live. The prophet unloaded on her about the king’s grave errors … sadly the son was the only good one in the bunch, but passed, maybe to spare him the pain of his father’s gross sins.

Parents, live right for the sake of your children.

Consequence of disobedience

1 Kings 12,13

God sent a man to call down wicked Jeroboam for instituting idol worship in his kingdom. The man was clearly instructed NOT to stop after his mission to confer with anyone.

An old prophet waylaid him after his mission. He stopped and ate with the prophet, but was devoured by a lion on his way home. His disobedience cost him his life.

Through God’s grace, live a life of obedience.
