About dpdemos

I am a 75 year old Christian who takes the daily devotional life seriously. I am told that my Greek grandfather was a devout man. My father was a devout man. May it be said of me.

Decisive leadership

1 Sam. 11

When Saul heard that his countrymen were under seized by the Amonites, he decisively called all Israel and Judah to war. He used a threat to get them to commit.

If authority has been given to leaders, they are wise to act decisively and expediently.

He who hesitates is lost.

Heart change

1 Sam. 10

On the day he was anointed the new King of Israel, God changed Saul’s heart. It probably NEEDED some change.

God gets involved in the hearts of rulers. “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will.” [ Pr. 21:1]

Heartache sons

1 Sam. 8

Sadly, Samuel’s sons did not follow the Lord like he did. He may have been an absent father, spending so much time judging and serving the nation but neglecting his own duties at home. Eli did the same thing. David’s son tried to kill him. We sometimes see this trend in present-day Christian leaders.

A father’s prayers are CRITICAL. Thankfully, Franklin Graham worked thru his backslidings and became an effective man of God. Billy was, no doubt, praying.

The Lewis revival

I’m reading the book, “Sounds from Heaven,” about the revival on the Scottish island of Lewis. Duncan Campbell preached there for 3 years and a great percentage of the inhabitants came to the Lord. Friend, WE need that kind of a move of God right now!

Two elderly sisters named Smith were key in praying for it. Their Bible was the Bible used in Trumps inauguration, and they were his kin.

America can only be great again if it turns to God in repentance!

Let’s prevail in prayer.

A sad day

1 Samuel 1-4

Eli was a poor leader. He allowed his sons, Hophni and Phineas, to abuse God’s people and serve their own interests rather than God’s. For this God allowed the army to be severely defeated, his sons lost their lives, and the Ark of the Covenant fell into the hands of the Philistines. Upon hearing this news, he fell back and died from a broken neck.

When a national leader lets his children serve only their self interests, he too is setting himself up for a shameful reputation. God will raise up those who will honor His name and truly serve the people.

Suspect bloodline

Ruth

Joseph, Mary’s husband, had a prostitute and a Moabite in his bloodline. Still, God used him to raise Jesus in his home and give Him a family heritage.

Who are YOU? Are there questionable things in your family’s “Hall of Shame?” You are in the company of King David and KING JESUS.

Noble character

Ruth

Boaz declared to Ruth, “I already know you are a woman of noble character.”

Ruth’s reputation preceeded her. She established it by putting the interests and well-being of Naomi ahead of hers.

Self-serving = low character.

Serving needs of others = noble character.

Mate selection

Ruth 2

As of yesterday, Patty and I have been married 55 years. No bragging here … but God has BLESSED me.

God brought Boaz into Ruth’s life and the rest was history. I always encourage young people to be on a path whereby they’re doing the right thing … and God will bring the right mate to them.

I was attending a tent revival and Patty was standing on stage holding a flag as she participated in an evangelistic skit. I always say, “I LIKE the way she held that flag!”
