About dpdemos

I am a 75 year old Christian who takes the daily devotional life seriously. I am told that my Greek grandfather was a devout man. My father was a devout man. May it be said of me.

The fruit of sorrow

Ruth 1

It must have been nearly unbearable for Naomi to lose her husband and both sons. Fortunately God gave her the Moabitess daughter-in-law, Ruth, who became a cog in the bloodline of David and Christ Jesus Himself.

God can turn your sorrow into joy. In faith, cling to the Hope that God’s plan is at work, and that your suffering will not have been in vain. “Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning.” (Ps. 30:5]

War is hell

Judges 21

In my old age, I become more and more against the foolishness and tragedy of war. So many young men are called upon to expose themselves to death and destruction, often for the sake of self-serving ideologies. Defense is one thing, but covetous aggression is vain.

The weapons of OUR warfare are not carnal, but they are mighty through God. Saints, we pray and praise our way to peace and victory.

Samson: unlikely hero

Judges 15

God’s angel foretold Samson’s birth. He was raised right … took the vow of a Nazarite. But, he had vices. Still, God used him.

You and I are not perfect. Yet, God uses us. Every day I pray, “Forgive me my sins as I forgive those who sin against me.”

Supernatural strength

Judges 14

Samson was indeed a phenomenon. He could kill a lion with his bare hands. God had carefully selected him and destined him to be a deliverer for Israel.

He had a soft spot for beautiful women. In essence, they led him astray.

God’s gifts may come with distractions. We are wise to keep our eyes focused on Christ and His Word EVERYDAY. Let the things of earth grow dim.

Back and forth

Judges 3-6

Israel demonstrated a very fickle existence of calling upon the Lord, falling away, calling upon the Lord, falling away etc. God raised up Judges who provided leadership in the absence of a king.

God has given His Holy Spirit to us to lead us in right paths. When we obey His Spirit, we can avoid the aimless and disastrous lifestyle that is always caving to our flesh.

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. [Gal. 5:16]

Many wars!

Judges 1-3

God’s people were forever at war with someone. Every new piece of territory they eyed had an enemy foe that required removal. Yes, God gave them victory, but they fought for every inch they took.

There are struggles and challenges in the Christian life. Victory is ours through Christ, but we must “Fight the good fight of faith!” [1 Tim. 6:12]

Not by your sword …

Joshua 24

God made it clear that the victories His people experienced were NOT because of their might. God Himself provided success to them. All they need do was ask.

That’s the way I feel about my family. I will move heaven and earth for their benefit. It’s a love of action and deeds if I’m in a position to help.

All of the Lord’s power and resources are available to those who call on His Name.

God’s Word will NEVER FAIL

Joshua 23

God is not a man that He should lie. He can’t lie. He watches over His Word to see that it accomplishes His purposes. This is why we should build our lives upon His Word.

My football team, The Ohio State Buckeyes, gave glory to God for their national championship season. Last year, Michigan won. They, too, had a core faith in Christ and won the championship.

It’s worth noting that both teams were strong witnesses for Christ and were given a lofty platform to share their faith. God watched over them.
