People groups

Jeremiah 45-48

Through Jeremiah, God addressed the different people groups of the region. It’s as if He had a particular will and destiny for each as well as punishment for their sins.

God doesn’t need Ancestry.com or 23andMe.com to recognize what bloodline we are from. He takes note of from whom you come. Without the cleansing blood of Jesus, you can still suffer for the sins of your forefathers ie. Hatfields and McCoys. God remembers inherited sin … UNLESS it’s covered and cleansed by the blood of Christ.

Conversely, God’s bountiful blessings can transmit through families whereby children and grandchildren inherit Godly favor that testifies to His great power.

“I’m so glad I’m a part of the Family of God …” 😄🎵

“We will not listen!”

Jeremiah 44

When Jeremiah attempted to deliver God’s message to the Jews living in Egypt, they defiantly declared, “We will not listen.” If effect, they were shutting their ears to hear anything other than what they wanted to hear. This is called “selective hearing.” On occasion I am guilty of this condition.

Seriously, becoming a disciple of Christ requires a commitment to hear His Voice, read His Word, and obey His Spirit. Having a hearing ear is critical to function for Christ in this life.

Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. [Pr. 8:34]

Beware of disobedient leaders

Jer. 40-43

Left-behind inhabitants of Jerusalem asked Jeremiah to seek God’s answer on what they should do after the destruction of their city. God’s message was for them to stay put and they would survive. Prideful Azariah and Hoshaiah rejected Jeremiah’s message as false and convinced the people to disobey by leaving for Egypt. This was their doom.

Quite often Christians KNOW what God’s will is but choose rather to buffet their carnal appetites and disobey. God is merciful, but CANNOT bless disobedience. False, self-serving leaders who lead God’s people astray will pay a price. I’ve seen it happen, sadly.

You should have listened

Jer. 38, 39

Zedekiah had his sons slaughtered and his eyes put out because he refused to obey God’s instructions to him through Jeremiah. How sad.

Painful things await those who refuse to listen to God. The way of a transgressor is hard. [Hos. 14:9]

Our lives can enjoy God’s blessings and His prosperity if we choose to obey His Word.

God knows where you are

Jeremiah 37

Jeremiah was tucked away in a prison and later a cistern where he was rescued by a Cushite. God at all times knew where he was.

Joseph likewise was confined in Egypt until Pharaoh called on him for his dream-interpretation ability. God knew where he was and called upon him at the appointed time.

In 1970 I was about to graduate from infantry training in the Army. Half of my company went to Vietnam for combat. Half of us were assigned to the Canal Zone. Guess where I ended up? Yup!. God knew where I was and arranged for me to head to Panama. He knew where I was … and where He wanted me to go next.

God knows where you are. Your future is in His hands. He has a will for your life. Keep trusting. Be faithful where you are. Your orders from heaven may be coming SOON.

Write

Jeremiah 34-36

God instructed Jeremiah to write His Words on a scroll. He enlisted Baruch for this task. This was so that it could be read to the leaders of Jerusalem. Unfortunately, the message was rejected and Jeremiah and Baruch were ordered to be bound. Nevertheless, we have those words today because Jeremiah was obedient to God.

Has the Lord ever told YOU to write? Many Christian chronicle their devotional life in a diary. I have chosen to use this app to record my thoughts. This blog is more for YOU … not that I have anything more important to say … my main motive is to stir you to do your own Bible study and record what God impresses to you.

What God speaks to you is not insignificant.

Call to Me

Jeremiah 33

My son-in-law is an excellent preacher. One of his key life verses is Jeremiah 33:3 which says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

God does not use email, USPS, FedEx, UPS etc. God uses your voice and His ears. He is just a prayerful request away. He’s as close as the mention of His Name. His voice is especially tuned to hear cries for help from His people … ANYONE for that matter.

Children who stray from their spiritual roots need do nothing more than call to Jesus for help when they encounter life’s sorrows … and THEY WILL. Raising them with the knowledge of Christ and His Power is like giving them the key to life. They will know when and where to use it by calling upon His Name in their hour of need.

God says, “I WILL answer you.”

NOTHING is too hard for the Lord

Jeremiah 32

Years ago we sang a chorus called, “Ah, Lord God!” It was a musical adaptation of Jeremiah 32:17. The key phrase was, “Nothing is too difficult for Thee.”

“What’s learned in song is remembered long!”

This is a truth that every Christian believer should know and live in. Obviously, God does not grant wishes that are outside of His Will as expressed in His Word. But, whenever our prayers and requests line up with His Will, He can accomplish ANYTHING.

Our faith is the key that unlocks His power when we ask in Jesus’ Name.

Restoration

Jer. 30, 31

God takes great delight in restoring lives. It’s as if the process isn’t complete unless failures are corrected and tragedies are healed over.

As an example, take old cars. In 1955, a Chevy Bel Air cost $2166. Restored, it is worth $75,000. Inflation considered, that’s an impressive difference in value.

God is in the restoration business. He takes broken lives, marriages, families etc. and puts them back together. They become trophies of His grace.

There is NO LIFE too far broken or gone for God to fix.

Bless your city

Jer. 28, 29

Jeremiah instructed the Israelites who were carried away in exile to, “Seek peace and well-being for the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf; for in its peace (well-being) you will have peace.” [Jer. 29:7 AMP]

In life we may find ourselves in cities or situations we don’t find comfortable … not of our choosing. We have a choice. We can stomp and complain about it, or begin praying and seeking peace in it. God knows where He wants us to end up, and He’s at work bringing that about. Meanwhile, bless the circumstance you find yourself in. Someday, you will look back and see how it benefited you.
