The power of unity

Luke 11

Jesus said a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.

Disunity in the locker room of a sports team causes superior athletes to lose games. Division in a political party robs the ballot box of the numbers it needs to win. A divided mind can render a leader ineffective when the pressure is on.

The Psalmist said “Unite my heart to fear Thy name.” [Ps. 86:11]

Hence, prayer can unite the heart. “Ask and you shall receive!”

A prayer strategy

Luke 10

Jesus made it clear that God can reveal or hide his knowledge from people. It makes sense to pray that God would reveal and open the eyes of those we’re concerned about. Obviously, we do our part in sharing the gospel but God can open their eyes and their hearts to see and believe.

I am going to focus on this prayer strategy for people I consider at risk of missing heaven. I do the asking and God does the revealing.

True profit

Luke 9

After a high School basketball game I attended the other night, a disgruntled student from the losing team began hollering profanities at the victors. He concluded by shouting, “We’re rich and you’re poor,” no doubt trying to prove a form of superiority other than basketball. It was sad. He just thought he was richer.

Jesus said “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?”

We are wise to make sure those we love are in the “Ark” of safety, the Salvation that only comes through the blood of Jesus. That’s TRUE profit.

Controlling spirits

Luke 8

We find in Luke’s writings insight into the nature and function of controlling spirits. Mary Magdalene had seven spirits cast out of her. The man living in tombs was full of many, many evil spirits, also called demons. Jesus cast them out with his word and authority. They wanted a body to live in so they were sent into a herd of pigs nearby.

We may or may not be aware of the extent of demon possession all around us. An easy place to find them is in the media and from Hollywood. Much music that is evil and promiscuous in nature is demon inspired. Holy matrimony and godly procreation are targets of the devil. True worship is another one of his prime targets. Hence, we find a lot of his activity invested in distorting and destroying these things that are near to God’s heart.

News travels

Luke 6,7

News of Christ’s miraculous power traveled all over Israel. Those seeking healing came from Jerusalem, the coastal cities and other regions of the holy Land. The same is today. When people hear about a revival that has miracle healing power, they will come.

They won’t come that far for good teaching or preaching or even excellent music. But, they will come for healing power. Physical healing is one of the greatest needs so many have today. We need to fast and pray for God’s healing power to be revealed. this will earmark a great move of God.

Jesus often withdrew

Luke 5

Jesus would often withdraw and find a solitary place to pray. The scripture said it was a frequent practice of his. After his sessions of communion with the heavenly father, he would display great power and mighty miracles.

It would be wise for us to adopt a similar practice. All through the day, we should be looking for opportunities to check in with the father through prayer. The world is desperate to see God’s power and a demonstration of his kingdom. We can be his ambassadors to this generation. Prayer is a big key.

Rebuke the fever

Luke 4

Jesus rebuked the fever of a woman in Capernaum and she was healed. He performed many miracles there whereas He couldn’t in His hometown of Nazareth. His hometown friends simply could not accept that He was the Son of God. They had no faith in Him.

In His name and its power, we also can rebuke fevers and affliction. He gave that power to us. We should use it, but only after acknowledging Him as God’s Son to Whom all power and authority has been given.

Rebuke ON!

Produce good fruit

Luke  2,3

John the Baptist declared, “Every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down.” He went on the describe good fruit as being acts of service and kindness … sharing clothes and food with the needy, conducting fair and just business transactions etc.

I’m figuring my taxes now. It’s important to God that I do them correctly. He’s more concerned with my honesty than with how much my return is.

Think about it … if Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, would have tried to evade paying taxes and reporting to Bethlehem for the census, Jesus might not have been born there. That would have presented a terrific theological problem.

Finding favor with God

Luke 1

Mary found favor with God and was chosen to bring Christ Jesus into the world. What an honor.

She must have been an extraordinary young lady, probably in her early to mid teens when Gabriel visited her with the news of her pending pregnancy.  No doubt her heart had not yet formed God-limiting attitudes. Being childlike was an advantage. Since Mary was related to Elizabeth, she was from the priestly tribe of Levi. When she married Joseph, she immediately became a descendant of David.

Regardless, we are grafted into the Family of God by accepting Christ. His favor is also granted to us. We should use this favor to bring others into the Kingdom of God rather than to merely heap blessings upon ourselves. God’s favor should give us Holy Ghost FLAVOR.

Our Commission

Mark 15,16

After Jesus had been crucified, He appeared to His disciples and gave them important instructions; “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.  And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;  they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

God confirmed this call to action by granting power for them to perform miraculous signs for all to see. This same power is available to contemporary Christians who will step up and perform the Great Commission.
