Laws of Moral Propriety

God clarified through the law what sexual acts to avoid to maintain honor and uprightness before Him. He instructed His people to resist the perversions of the people groups they were displacing in the Promised Land.

He described the way even creation is violated through moral perversion when He said, “The land will vomit you up.” The human body is designed to observe God’s standards of moral purity, both physical and mental. Anything less incurs devastation.

PRAYER: Father, we commit to lives of moral purity in both our actions and our hearts. We want to honor You with our bodies.

What God Really Wants

The law provided detail and procedure on how the worshiper could become and stay clean (in right standing) with God. It was “instruction in righteousness.”

Christ Jesus placed the focus upon the inner man, his heart, rather than the outward man. He knew you could be appropriate on the outside, but corrupt on the inside. That was hypocrisy.

David said it … “Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.” [Ps. 51:6]

PRAYER: Lord, I want my heart, its meditation, its motives, its desires, to please You. I want to have a pure heart before You and everyone I meet.

Clean or Unclean

To the priests was given the task of determining the health of the individual worshiper. They were not sent to the pharmacy for medicine. They were declared clean (healthy) or unclean (unhealthy).

Naaman was told by the prophet to dip in the Jordan river 7 times to be cleansed of his leprosy. Obedience to the Lord was a key element in becoming clean.

Moses prayed for Aaron and Miriam and their leprosy was healed.

PRAYER: Father, we want to walk in health. We believe in Christ and His cleansing blood. Help our unbelief.

Dietary Laws

Ooooo … I don’t like this subject.

Did God make a big mistake when He gave ordinances to the Israelites about what they could eat and what they could not? I don’t think so.

As difficult as it is to “swallow” (Get it?) we should pay more attention to the dietary laws than we do.

Pork, shrimp, sausage etc.

We should be eating more grasshoppers.

PRAYER: Father in Heaven, have mercy upon us. Lovingly give us the grace to be in control of our eating habits.

The Anointing

Oil was splashed and poured over the priests and elements involved in the sacrifice process. It signified the commissioning of these elements to God’s Holy use in offering men a way to be right before Him.

God still pours the Holy Spirit out upon vessels He uses to bring men unto Himself. The presence of His Spirit upon a preached message signifies an anointing. His presence and Spirit make us holy. The credit does not go to us.

PRAYER: Father, I humble myself under Your mighty hand. Fill my life with Your Holy Spirit today that I might bring souls unto You.

Offering Effort

The detailed regulations required of both the priests and the congregation as described in Leviticus is ambitious and somewhat monumental. God was very thorough in conveying the elements necessary to please Him.

The New Testament believer has been relieved of the necessity of offering animals to atone for sin through Christ’s death on the cross. However, we are nonetheless wise to devote intentionality, sincerity, and effort when offering our praise and thanksgiving.

A New Testament worship service is not to be a contemporary music concert. It should be a platform for redeemed worshipers to make lavish offerings of praise to the Lord.

PRAYER: Father, forgive us for neglecting to offer to You the fruit of our lips in song and the lifting up of our hands in praise to You. You deserve the highest and most lavish praise offered from sincere hearts.

Impartation of Sin to the Offering

The priests and those making an offering to atone for sin were to place their hand upon the offering. Their sin was transferred to the animal.

Christ Jesus took upon Himself our sins. Rather than our sins being imparted to Him, He imparted healing and cleansing to us. The woman who touched the hem of His garment … He felt the virtue flowing out of Himself.

We call upon Him. He touches us. We receive His goodness.

PRAYER: Father, touch us afresh with Your Spirit and Your Power.

Tabernacle Colors

Blue, purple, and scarlet were the colors in the Tabernacle of Moses.

Blue speaks of divinity. The sky is blue. It is over all. Obviously, God loved blue to have made both the sky and the seas blue.

Purple is between blue and scarlet, and is actually a combination of both. It speaks of royalty … King Jesus Who was God in the flesh. God’s divinity and Christ’s blood combine to give us our Savior, Redeemer.

Scarlet speaks of the blood.  Christ’s scarlet blood cancelled out our scarlet sins. We are now white with purity because of the scarlet blood.

God’s choice of colors give great meaning to the Tabernacle.

PRAYER: Father, You speak to us of Your Kingdom in everything, even the colors of Your creation. Open our eyes to behold wondrous things in Your Word.

Willing Hearts

“All who were willing brought to the Lord freewill offerings for all the work the Lord through Moses had commanded them to do.” [Ex. 35:29]

Gold, silver, bronze, cloth, acacia wood, gems … these were the materials used to build the Tabernacle, and those who had willing hearts brought them joyfully to the Lord.

When the valid need is placed before the people, God moves on hearts to meet the need. “Thy people shall be willing in the day of Thy power.” [Ps. 110:3]

PRAYER: Lord, give us the wisdom to accurately place the needs before Your people. Move upon hearts to provide for the building of the new High School building for TCS.

Come Up In the Morning

God instructed Moses to ascend Mt. Sinai in the morning and there He would show him His Glory. He also re-gave the ten commandments, God’s blueprint for living, to Moses to give to the people of Israel.

The morning is the time of day when our minds are most clear. If seeking God and His Glory is the first thing on our daily agenda, He is honored and can set the tone for the entire day.

When Moses descended from the mountain, his face shown with God’s Glory.

PRAYER:  Father, we desire to meet with You in the mountain of Your Presence. Write Your Word in our hearts. Reveal Yourself through us to the world we live in.
