God defends His ministers

Num. 16

Korah, Dathan, and Abiram came against Moses and Aaron. God caused the earth to open up and swallow them. It was a gruesome display of God’s displeasure.

God protects His servants. I learned my lesson MANY years ago when I spoke against my spiritual mentor. God gave me a horrible belly ache. I apologized to him in front of the entire church.

Lesson learned.

Don’t gather wood on the Sabbath

Num. 15

An Israelite was stoned to death for gathering wood on the Sabbath. Can you imagine being shot to death by the police if you went above the speed limit? Such was life under the Law of Moses.

Christ’s sacrifice DELIVERED us from the law of sin and death. We confess our sin to Hin, and we’re forgiven, not stoned.

Oh, WHAT A SAVIOR.

Don’t turn back

Num. 14

The Children of Israel suffered defeat at the hands of the first resistance they encountered in the new land. They believed the negative report of the 10 spies who lacked faith, actually longing to go back to Egypt. This displeased the Lord.

Lot’s wife was turned into a pillar of salt for looking back. The 10 faithless spies suffered an untimely death. Paul encouraged a forward-looking frame of mind. [Phil. 3:13, 14]

Good report / bad report

Num. 13, 14

When the 12 spies returned to give their report on the promised land, 10 gave a bad report, and 2 gave a good report. The difference … FAITH.

Faith is a commodity God gives. It’s not your personal “positive thinking.” Overcomers operate with the faith that God gives. Spend your time with God before you evaluate life’s challenges.

The meekness of Moses

Num. 12

The man who spoke with God face to face, who parted the Red Sea, who called down plagues upon Egypt … was the humblest man in earth. Can you believe it?

The true strength of a leader is the strength of the principles upon which he stands, the power BEHIND his decisions.

Mentorship

Num. 11

Moses’s leadership was spread too thin. God had him gather qualified men which stood with him near the Tabernacle. God supernaturally put the wisdom and spirit of Moses upon them. They were then able to help him handle the complaints of the people.

God raises up suitable leaders to help with the pressures of being in charge. He imparts ability through mentoring. Christ’s disciples were mentored. Paul mentored Timothy.

Follow the cloud

Num. 9

The Children of Israel followed the cloud of God’s presence, which hovered by day and a pillar of fire by night. It wasn’t difficult or tricky.

Do you think God is trying to make life difficult? NO!

Now, He leads us by our faith and His Word. Read and know the Word. Then take steps clarified by your faith. He deals out faith as we read His Word and follow His Spirit.

Sustain the poor

Num. 7

The Israelites were instructed to take in the poor and feed them. God didn’t want anyone to do totally without. Whatever we do to the least of these …

Years ago I was fuelling up one of Ttinity’s bases and a luxury car drove up and stopped. An elegant African-American lady jumped out and asked if I was the pastor of the church. I said, “My son-in-law is.” I was instructed to tell him, “As you help the poor, the Lord will increase you.”

Both Trinity Church and School have done so and been abundantly blessed. God takes care of those who take care of the poor.

Offerings that please the Lord

Num. 7

The law specified what to include in your offering to please God. David discovered that a heart of praise and gratitude were more important. [Ps. 69:30,31]

Faith in Christ is the most pleasing thing we can do because the offering of His life on the cross eclipsed the value any mortal could offer to God. [Heb. 10]
