The description of the construction of the Tabernacle of Moses included a liberal use of solid and hammered gold; utensils, the altar, the lampstand, portions of Aaron’s garment. Clearly, no expense was spared and excellence was apparent everywhere.

New Testament thinking transfers the application of excellence to the investment made into the hearts and lives of people.  John, the Revelator, “Heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” Rev. 21:3

DAILY PRAYER:  Lord, we are awed by Your love and care to us. You spared no expense when You sent Your Son, Christ Jesus, to lay down His life that we might live. Hallelujah!

DAILY READING: Ex. 37-39

GPS has nearly eliminated the need for maps (our grandchildren won’t know what they are.)  Nevertheless, the law God gave His Children was like a roadmap through life. It showed them how to live to get to the righteous destination. Maybe the Holy Spirit is like GPS because He has a voice and He always leads to the right destination.

Reading and listening to God’s Word everyday fills out heart and mind with His thinking. It’s like downloading daily updates from His map app. He gives us everything we need to be truly successful in life.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, lead me by Your Holy Spirit and Your Word. Teach us to hear Your Voice more clearly. Lord Jesus, only You have the Words of eternal life.

DAILY READING: Ex. 34-36

This was Moses’ request of the Lord. God instructed Moses to stand in the recess of a rock. Then God covered Moses with His hand, and passed by Moses. He only got a look at God’s back side, because nobody could look upon the Holy face of God and live.

In Christ dwelt the fullness of the Godhead in a body. Christ put a face on God. All of God’s power and divinity resided in Jesus. We are given access to God’s glory through Christ whenever we call upon His name. Amazing!

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, in the name of Jesus we come boldly to Your throne and ask for a visitation of Your Spirit.  We want to see Your face and behold Your glory.

DAILY READING: Ex. 32,33

The ordination and consecration process for the priests was a rigorous and demanding way of life. The detail in dressing them and making acceptable sacrifices to the Lord to prepare them for service was not a light matter.

In essence, all New Testament Christians are called to be priests and kings before God. Gratefully, Christ Jesus has qualified us to minister to God through His sacrifice on the cross. Our daily consecration, though, should be the committed focus of our energies.

“Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith you have been called.” Eph. 4:1

DAILY PRAYER: Father, give me the necessary grace to live a daily life that reflects Your glory.

DAILY READING: Ex. 29,30

In the summer of 1967, I had just completed my freshman year of college. I knew I wanted to devote my life to Christian service, and felt impressed to distribute evangelistic literature at the Ohio State Fair. I leased space in a commercial display building and constructed a booth using the predominate tabernacle colors, blue, purple, and red with gold lettering. I was really pleased with the way it turned out … wish I had a picture of it now.

As we read God’s Word, He inspires us to take actions that will build His kingdom. Colors, words, His Holy Spirit … all combine to create a message. Let Him inspire you.

DAILY PRAYER: Father, only in heaven will I find out how effective were my evangelistic efforts at the Ohio State Fair. Inspire us to launch out for You. Life can be so exciting when we take steps of faith for You.

DAILY READING: Ex. 26-28

I always tease my wife about our home decorations and furniture. She seems to only be concerned with how a piece looks rather than how it functions. For me, function is the main criteria.  We have fun.

With God, the furniture of the tabernacle combined both … function and beauty. He prescribed to Moses how each item was to be placed, how it was to be made, and the materials with which to make it. He had a plan.

Today, God’s house is His people. We have both function and beauty. One may be more obvious  than the other, but HE HAS A PLAN. Trust Him with your life. He will fit you in.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, we all belong to You, and You are fitting us together into Your eternal abode. We hereby submit to Your Master Decorating Plan.

DAILY READING: Ex. 24,25

The law of Moses dealt with practical issues that come up in daily life. God made it clear that honest, just, and upright dealings were to be conducted between the Israelites in their daily lives. He disallowed favoritism, bribery, and unjust conclusions in business, legal matters, and restitution of stolen or damaged possessions.

David echoed this this mandate when he prayed, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord.” Ps. 19

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, let every dealing of my life be acceptable to You. You see everything and You examine the hearts of men continually.

DAILY READING: Ex. 22,23

Whether Old Testament or New, it’s clear: God loves obedience, and He rewards it richly. His offer to His people through the intermediary, Moses was this; “If you obey Me fully and keep My covenant, then out of all nations you will be My treasured possession …  you will be for Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

This was similar to what He offered to the Sons of Zadok, the priesthood family who gave the highest level of devotion to God. He told them, “I will be your possession, I will be your reward.”

When we behold Him in all His glory, we will understand the magnanimity of this offer.

DAILY PRAYER: Father, Whom have I in heaven but You, and there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. You are my portion, my inheritance. All material possessions are meaningless.

DAILY READING: Ex. 19-21

The Children of Israel had just witnessed a spectacular event, the parting and crossing of the Red Sea. As they began their journey towards the Land of Promise, they were supernaturally led by a pillar of fire by night, and a pillar of cloud by day. In spite of these supernatural provisions from God, their main concern was “What will we eat?” As they grumbled, indicating that they’d rather be back in Egypt for the food, God again provided miracle food … “Manna.”

Their appetite for their immediate needs and wants prevented them from seeing the big picture … that they were free from bondage and headed toward a glorious future. Seem familiar?

DAILY PRAYER: Father, thank You for the abundant life You have provided. Forgive us for being so selfishly concerned primarily with what we think we need and what we want.

DAILY READING: Ex. 16-18

Wouldn’t you love to have been there as the Children of Israel just witnessed one of the greatest miracles of the entire Bible, the parting of the Red Sea. Can you hear Moses raising a stentorian voice which began singing, “I will sing unto the Lord for He hath triumphed gloriously, the horse and rider thrown into the sea.”

The Psalmist said, “I will sing unto the Lord because He has dealt bountifully … been so good to me.”

Try singing to the Lord today. He has done great things for you.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, I will raise my song to You. Give ear to my voice, my prayer to You. Come and dwell in my praise by Your power.
