FAMILY – Everyone needs one

Numbers 3

Belonging to a family is God’s plan for everyone, whether they were born into a good one or not. Christian families are generally stronger than non- Christian.

The Family of God is found in the local church. Care and belonging are found there. When you are down or in need, the Body of Christ will be there to pick you up. Brothers and sisters in Christ have a responsibility to each other.

Get plugged in and begin walking in your family privilege.

Going out to war

Numbers 1

All the young men who were at least 20 years old were considered available to go to war. In present day Israel, they slap a gun on teenage girls and enlist them in the military.

I have three grandsons who are old enough to go to war. I DON’T want to lose them, so I pray against war. I was drafted into the army during the Vietnam war. God spared me and sent me to the Canal Zone. Looking back, I feel for what my mom and “then” girlfriend Patty went through.

Join me in praying against war. It’s a ridiculous business with too high a cost.

God took care of the OT priests

Lev. 27

Many aspects of the Law had built-in tenets that made sure the priests had food to eat and cities to dwell in. God took good care of them.

We are NT priests unto God. He hasn’t changed. He STILL takes care of those who serve and minister unto Him. Patty and I can attest. We’re NOT WEALTHY, but God has made us comfortable.

PTL!

Make God happy

Lev. 26

God warned His people how He would plague them if they worshipped idols to displace Him. He could pull the pins on their chariot wheels and let them ride on axles.

Christ Jesus was anointed with joy above all His fellows (companions) [Ps. 45:7] because He loved righteousness and hated wickedness. We make God happy when we do likewise and trust Christ for our salvation.

We all need rest

Lev. 25

If God Himself took a rest, we see how important it is. He instituted Sabbath rest in the calendar. The older I get, the more time for rest and recovery I need. (I’m glad I’m not a pro football player)

Healthy music has well placed periods of rest. A car with lower milage (more rest) is worth more. A rested singing voice sounds better.

Failure to rest can lead to heart attack and serious health problems.

Hmmmm. I SHOULD be VERY HEALTHY!

Be good to the needy

Lev. 23

God’s people were instructed to leave the corners of their harvest fields for the needy to glean. It was a benevolence gesture revealing God’s heart. The needy are ALWAYS on His mind.

They should be on our minds, too.

“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me.” -Jesus

Preparation for worship

Lev. 16

God gave a thorough and exacting process through which the priests were to cleanse themselves to prepare to enter His presence. They actually risked expulsion or death. Christ’s death cleanses us from all impurity when we have faith in Him. It’s our personal relationship with Him that prepares us for worship.

Clean living

Lev. 14

Removing leprosy (or whatever unwanted growth) from the interior of a house was a critical element in an Israelite’s spiritual standing. A dirty house required an inspection from the priests.

I guess we don’t fully understand how important a clean house is to God. My wife gets it, though. (She’s gonna kill me for saying this)

Cleanliness IS Godliness!

Home sweet home

By God’s grace our home is paid for. It’s in Patty’s name so we wouldn’t lose it if I would get sued.

I often joke, “Look at this home I bought you.” Truth is, God provided this home. I deserve no credit.

Early in our ministry journey, I never thought I would be able to afford a home on my very modest music minister’s salary. (under $10k) Here we are 55 years later living in the comfortable home THE LORD HAS PROVIDED.

God is a provider. Early on, the Lord told me He would give me a pl,ace to live if I gave Him a place to live (in my heart). He has kept His promise.
