Long Life

Proverbs chapter 3 is a pivotal passage for those seeking the best life can offer. The key ingredient to a long and satisfying life is disclosed; wisdom.

The easiest and most effective way to find wisdom is in a person, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The Apostle Paul distinguishes between the faulty wisdom of men and the supernatural provision God gives by describing Christ as “The power of God and the wisdom of God.” [1 Cor. 1:24]

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, earthly wisdom has let us down. You will never let us down. You have the keys to life. We trust in You.

Everything Praises the Lord

Even inanimate objects like the mountains and hills declare God’s greatness. All elements of nature were created to praise God. How much more should men praise Him. They are the crowning glory of His Creation.

The Lord’s name and His greatness should be our constant theme, continually upon our lips.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, to You belongs all the praise and glory. It is our privilege to show forth Your mighty power to our generation.

Spiritual Warfare

We praise; God fights.  That’s the essence of spiritual warfare.

First of all, we don’t have the power to fight the rulers of the spirit world but God does. As we praise Him, He releases His power to defeat our enemies. He defeats our enemies when we call upon and in the authority of the Name of Jesus.

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. [1 Cor. 15:57]

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, You are our deliverer and protector. In Your name we shall run through a troop and leap over a wall.

A Womb Masterpiece

My baby daughter (she’s 30) is about ready to deliver one of God’s masterpieces. When reading Ps. 139, the Master Artist gives us a small glimpse of the creative process He will have performed in the womb of an expectant mother to bring to life another marvelous human being. I’m anxious to see what color from His palette He used to stroke her hair.

Miracle of miracles is the way we are created and birthed. Greater still is the way we are born again into the Kingdom of God through faith in Christ.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, thank You for the gift of life. Give us the grace to raise our children for Your glory.

Having Children

The Psalmist declares the blessing of having children when he states,

“Children are a heritage from the Lord,
    offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.”

J.S. Bach, the famous German composer of the Baroque period, had 20 children. There were no copy machines then. They helped him copy music parts.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, thank you for the blessing of children. Each one is a unique gift to us.

God’s Word is Eternal

The Psalmist composed a teaching tool to reinforce the importance of God’s Word in our lives, Ps. 119. He states that he finds comfort and sustenance in the Lord’s precepts. In essence, a student of God’s Word will find all he needs in it for the living of life from infancy to old age. It’s all we need.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, Your Words are my home. I live in You and You live in me.

God’s Love Never Gives Up

How do we know? The Bible tells us so … “His love endures forever.”

God’s love is not human love. Our love doesn’t last forever. We hold grudges, take up for others who have been offended, spread discord rather than healing and forgiveness, all in the name of human love. God’s love bears [endures] all things, believes [the best in] all things, hopes [for a righteous outcome in] all things.

Don’t give up on love.

DAILY PRAYER: Father, forgive us, for so often we don’t realize what we’ve done in the name of love.

Wisdom’s Foundation

The Psalmist declared, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” As we consider candidates for public office, can we place the fear of the Lord as a necessary qualification. Can we also place the fear of the Lord as a prerequisite for hiring. Godly wisdom is an increasingly valuable component in facing the challenges of a godless world.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, You are Wisdom to us. We are desperate for You.

C Jesus

I want to form a support group for Christians who have been diagnosed with cancer of any form. Also invited would be their caregivers … mates, close relatives etc. Mutual sharing of the scripture verses each person is living on, and hearing each person’s personal story would be encouraging to those who would attend.

The Bible encourages us to “bear one another’s burdens.” It could be a great source of strength to those interested.

If you know someone who might be interested, email me a dpdemos@numail.org

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, we want to keep our eyes on You even though we have health challenges. You are our Healer.

TV Watching Rules

How did the Psalmist know what TV would be like? Regardless, after reading Ps. 101, we have a hunch he knew … when he says, “I will not look with approval on anything that is vile.” Guys, it seems that Hallmark movies might just be the answer. Girls, you were right.

Seriously, read Ps. 101 and evaluate how your TV watching diet measures up.

DAILY PRAYER: Lord, we really do want to honor You by what we entertain ourselves with. Give us the grace to turn off the junk.
